FAQ

Motor Insurance FAQ

Is motor insurance mandatory in Nepal?
Yes, third-party motor insurance is mandatory for all vehicles under Nepal's Motor Vehicles Transport Management Act 2049 and subsequent amendments. Driving without valid third-party insurance can result in fines and legal action. You must renew annually.
What documents are needed for motor insurance?
You need: Bluebook (vehicle registration certificate), valid driving license, citizenship/ID proof, previous insurance policy (for renewal), vehicle photos, and chassis/engine number. For new vehicles, you'll also need the purchase invoice.
What is IDV (Insured Declared Value)?
IDV is the maximum sum your insurer will pay in case of total loss or theft of your vehicle. It's calculated as the manufacturer's listed price minus depreciation based on the vehicle's age. Higher IDV means higher premium but better payout. Always declare accurate IDV.
Can I get cashless repair at garages?
Yes! Most comprehensive motor insurance plans offer cashless repair at network garages across Nepal. Show your insurance card at the network garage, get the car repaired, and the insurer directly pays the garage. You only pay for excluded items or deductibles.
